Preschool and Children’s Ministry Director – Concord Baptist Church

Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Missouri, seeks a full-time Children’s Ministry Director with a passion for discipling children and equipping families. Responsible for providing leadership, vision, and oversight for programming and events for children from birth through 6th grade. Successful candidate will exhibit spiritual maturity, integrity, and a servant-leadership mindset. Bachelor’s degree in ministry, education, child development, or related field and previous experience leading a church children’s ministry preferred. Successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers; experience in curriculum planning and event coordination; and proficiency with church management software and basic technology tools. Immediate Supervisor: Discipleship Pastor
Summary: Provide leadership, vision, and oversight for ministry activities for children from birth through 6th grade.

Ministry Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and lead a comprehensive children’s ministry that is aligned with the church’s mission and values and complements other church ministries. It shall include weekly programming on Sundays and Wednesdays, as well as annual and special events, such as:
    • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
    • Child dedications
    • Camps and retreats
    • Seasonal events and outreach opportunities
    • Family discipleship events
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and spiritually engaging, Christ-centered environment for children and families to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Evaluate ministry effectiveness and make improvements as needed.
  • Maintain a strong presence during weekend services and key ministry events.

Volunteer Recruitment & Development

  • Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and shepherd volunteers and ministry leaders; supervise and direct the Nursery & Preschool Coordinator’s activities.
  • Foster a healthy volunteer culture marked by effective and timely communications, encouragement, teamwork, accountability, and spiritual growth.
  • Plan and conduct volunteer appreciation and development opportunities at least 2-3 times per year.
  • Ensure all volunteers complete required background checks and safety training.

Curriculum & Discipleship

  • Select, organize, and implement biblically sound curriculum for all age groups.
  • Equip children to grow in biblical literacy, worship, prayer, service, and evangelism.
  • Develop discipleship pathways and spiritual milestones for children and families.
  • Provide resources and encouragement to parents for at-home discipleship.

Safety & Administration

  • Oversee child safety procedures, classroom policies, check-in systems, and emergency protocols. Coordinate with Security Team and Medical Response Team Leaders as needed to assure good communication and response procedures.
  • Assure accurate attendance, volunteer, and family records are maintained on the church database; encourage appropriate follow-up by volunteers, as needed to maintain contact with families.
  • Prepare and submit an annual budget request by the specified deadline; manage the approved ministry budget responsibly.
  • Ensure classrooms and ministry spaces are clean, organized, safe, and adequately supplied. Notify the responsible staff member of maintenance concerns or needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and activities; promote communication and teamwork among staff and volunteers.

Family Ministry Partnerships

  • Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers.
  • Communicate regularly with families through email, social media, church management software, and printed materials.
  • Provide support and care for families during times of celebration, crisis, or transition.
  • Collaborate with student ministry and other church departments to support family discipleship.
